Good news for you if you fall in the aforementioned category. It is possible to write a novel in record time, even with the tight schedule that you have. In fact, writing a novel in a short time is not entirely dependent on the time that you spend while writing. Instead, it is influenced by multiple factors which when nailed down, will enable you to write your novel in no time. Here are some of them:
This may seem obvious. However, most writers only narrate tales of how they intend to write a novel in the near future but never get anything done. For that reason, the best advice that can be dished out to them is to fire up their writing software, and write something.
- Write fast
A habit that rookie writers have and that eventually bogs them down is paying attention to every word or sentence they write. When working on your first draft, you should concentrate on getting the ideas down, in the shortest time possible. Editing is left to the second and third drafts. If you keep agonizing on every word, your pace will be slow, and you may eventually give in to self-doubt and scrap away the project.
- Practice a lot
For a novel to be complete, there are some elements that have to be present, such as proper pacing, proper dialogue, a point of view that is clear and good distribution of details. In order to nail all this, you have to practice writing a lot, until you begin to improve. If you embark on writing a novel without proper grasp of these facts, you’ll only end up spending a lot of time trying to fuse them into your writing later on. Knowing them will thus save you some time.
- Have a goal
Very few writers have the luxury of having the whole day to writing. Most have responsibilities which keep them from writing as much as they would want. For that reason, it is wise to have a weekly target to help one utilize the little time at hand. You could, for example, set a weekly target of 10,000 words. You may then distribute among the days of the week.
- Come up with a routine
Every prolific writer has a routine. They have a special place where they write from. There are some conditions that have to be met before they can get on to writing such as wearing noise cancellation headphones while playing some slow music. Having a routine gets one in to the zone and also affords one the comfort which enables one to speed up.
