I read this book a really long time ago and honestly, I am ashamed at how long this has taken me to get too. Normally I would have a book review every week, but with my increase of writing, my reading has taken its toll. I was also in a reading rut but I am hopefully getting out of that now!
What if your first love came back on the scene . . . 30 years later?
After yet another disaster, Lorrie is calling time on online dating. She might be single in her forties, but she’s got a good job, wonderful children and she’s happy. This, Lorrie decides, is going to have to be enough.
That is until she receives a very unexpected request from France. Antoine Rousseau, who had once turned a lonely French exchange trip into a summer of romance, wants to see her – after thirty years.
But Lorrie is a responsible woman. She can’t exactly run off to Nice with the man who broke her teenage heart . . . can she?
A wonderfully funny novel, perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Joanna Bolouri and Milly Johnson.
The title and the cover are what drew me into this novel initially. I absolutely love the cover. It's so inviting. Plus the carefree lady on the cover is how I want to feel all of my life. Especially on holiday. The blurb was what made my purchase this novel. As soon as I finished reading, I needed to know Lorrie's story, and so I hit the buy button.
The opening scenes in this novel were perfect. Everything you could ask for within a novel and gave great backstory. From there, we are introduced to Lorrie, a middle-aged woman with two kids. The love of her life has sadly died and as time has now passed her children think it's time for her to start dating again.
Lorrie is a strong hard-working woman, who cares about everyone and still has the balls to stick up for herself. She doesn't take any nonsense and she just wants to be happy and in love. After a few disastrous dates, we are introduced to her first flame, Antoine.
Reading about Lorrie's life and adventures through her past was a beautiful tale, and without giving too many spoilers I'm very glad her mistakes weren't made multiple times.
Overall, this book was not the romance I expected but it was definitely a beautiful rendition. Very glad I picked up this little beauty and I am happy to award it 4 stars.
