So, once again, YouTube or AuthorTube to be exact has allowed me to find yet another outstanding author. This book has literally blown me away and I cannot fathom how much I am waiting for the sequel.
Tobias Kaya doesn't care about The Savior. He doesn't care that She's the Ruler of the realm or that She purified the land, and he certainly doesn't care that She's of age to be married. But when competing for Her hand proves to be his last chance to save his family, he’s forced to make The Savior his priority.
Now Tobias is thrown into the Sovereign’s Tournament with nineteen other men, and each of them is fighting—and killing—for the chance to rule at The Savior's side. Instantly his world is plagued with violence, treachery, and manipulation, revealing the hidden ugliness of his proud realm. And when his circumstances seem especially dire, he stumbles into an unexpected romance, one that opens him up to unimaginable dangers and darkness.
So, I am going to try and do this review as spoiler free as possible. HOWEVER, first, I need to talk about this cover. It's bloody beautiful, and so on point with the story. The blurb definitely brought me into the "I NEED TO READ THIS" phase and honestly, I am super pleased I took it with me on my holiday in May and devoured this book in one sitting.
Disclaimer, as this is an adult book there is a lot of swearing. So if you don't like that then you shouldn't read the book. If you're okay, you're going to love the story within the pages.
TSC, The Savior's Champion, is written in third person from Tobias' POV, in a place called Thessen. I absolutely love that this book has a mythological feel as well as a mash up between The Hunger Games and The Minotaur. This fantasy realm is one that struggles with many hardships and suddenly the Savior is born and saves everyone. Since then, for every generation of the Savior there is a Tournament to choose a suitor for them.
Tobias enters this, not to win the heart of the Savior, but in an effort to save his family with the money that is paid to contestants.
The Tournament itself is full of challeeges that test and push the contestants to past their limits. During which, Tobias falls in love. But this is a dangerous romance which could get him killed.
The pacing of this novel is literally spot on. There are no moments that drag or go too fast. In fact, this book keeps you hooked from the very first page. Although every page did make you want to turn it so you could learn more. The twists and turn in this novel complimented the pacing well. The foreshadowing was epic and left you clueless yet in the loop at the same time.
The characters were so well developed. They all had their own stories, flaws and strengths. I loved the amount of diversity within the book and how it was easy to differentiate between characters. There were a few times where I ended up laughing to myself on the sunbed and having a few onlookers.
Overall, I was absolutely gobsmacked by this story. It was everything I needed, and everything I wanted in an adult fantasy novel. 100% Recommend.
