This has been a long time coming. Salt & Stone has been sat in my TBR pile for months and so I decided to just get on it with and read it. In five hours I devoured this book and feel completely in love with this story again.
One hundred and twenty-two began. Only forty-one remain. Tella's made it through the first terrains of the Brimstone Bleed \- but the contest isn't over yet. If she wants to save her brother, she must face oceans and icy mountains, all for the chance of winning the Cure. And even if Tella survives these deadly places, the greatest threat will still be her fellow Contenders \- even the ones she trusts the most \.
I loved this book. Victoria Scott is an inspiring writer who pulls you deep into her world with such ease. Her characters make you feel emotions and her story keeps you on edge. Book one was like falling in love for the first time and book two is the one that makes you love sick. I'm so hoping there is a book three however the ending could be left exactly where it is or it could be carried on.
Tella and Guy are the best kind of couple. In their situation they are unable to have a real relationship as they know in the end they might not all make it. Yet still they try to keep each other alive. I love how feisty Tella is when she is told to do something or not to do something. Her independent fieriness is just perfect for the position she is in.
The Brimstone Bleed's last two legs of the race cover the ocean and the mountains. While they go through the course they find out how everything they do is sabotaged to kill off contenders of the race. Every page makes you need to turn another and trying to split this book over a couple of evenings were hard. I would definitely recommend this series of books to anyone who loves fantasy.
