Book Review | Cloaked in Shadow by Ben Alderson

Book Review - Cloaked in Shadow (The Dragori #1) by Ben Alderson.png

If I hadn't found Sasha Alsberg on Youtube I would never have found Ben, his book or his publishing company. Thankfully, I did find them and it let me to his book, and one of the only stories to get me out of my Elise Kova hangover.

Blurb:

Zacriah Trovirn is concerned with two things in life: hunting and dodging Petrer, the boy who broke his heart.

Heartbreak becomes a distant concern when Zacriah is taken to the Elven capital of Thessolina, where he is forced into King Dalior’s new legion of shapeshifters. But Zacriah isn’t a shapeshifter. In truth, he doesn't know what he is.

Zacriah joins forces with new friends and they soon find themselves embroiled in a clash between the three Elven continents. With war looming on the horizon, Zacriah must learn to use his latent power to fight and protect those he loves before they are destroyed.

Review:

I have to say, the reason I bought this book was because of the insanely beautiful cover, and the blurb that literally pulls your face to the page. I've also not read many LGBTQ books and thought it was about time I picked it up, to which I was not mistaken.

This book literally had everything inside it. Everything I love from fantasy stories as well as a few new things thrown in. I would have liked some more worldbuilding so we knew the history a bit more but I am sure that will come in time with the rest of the series.

I really liked Zac as a character. I found some characters a little annoying, especially the king, but I liked Prince Hadrian and Nyah. The overall plot was great, although I am slightly confused as to why Zac couldn't shift. The plot twist in the middle kinda blew my mind and made me race to the finish.

Overall, this book was a great read with many exciting scenes and I'm excited about the next instalment.
