One of the things I find hard about blogging is dealing with the overwhelm of it all. There are so many blogs out there that when I think about my little space on the interest I wonder how anyone find me, or if they even like my style of writing. I never know if I'm creating things that people want to read, or need to use. However, just because my blog doesn't have a million page views a day doesn't mean it isn't great in it's own way so if you feel like this too, let me share some tips.
Blogging Overwhelm. What this is, is simply the feeling of stress, negativity, imposter syndrome and feeling like you just want to give up. If you have ever felt any of those feelings let me just tell you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Every blogger has felt like that at some point.
Content creation; one of the things I personally feel the biggest overwhelm with is simply the creation of my content. Some days I think I have to may ideas and some days I think I don't have enough. I go from feeling like my writing is amazing and everyone wants to read it to thinking it's not good and no one wants to come to my site. One thing you need to remember is that you should create content for you, not for your readers.
Don't get me wrong you should listen to your audience and see what they like, dislike and want from your blog. However, you shouldn't post anything on your site JUST because it's what they asked for. You need to be happy with your writing and actually want to create what they are asking for.
Comparison Trap; more commonly known as imposter syndrome. I get it. I frequently look over others blogs and think "I am never going to be as good as them" or "I should just stop blogging now because I can't be like that". It's true you can't be like them because you are you and they are them. I have been told by two brilliant people (and it's finally sunk in) that your readers want YOUR personal take on the topic, they want to know what YOU think on said topic. They are there for you.
Stressing out; or as I like to call it, feeling the overwhelm. My brain does a freakout and I just want to curl up into a ball stop blogging and run away from everything. Commit to my full time job and not be anything special. I would not be happy like that. I know you wouldn't be happy like that either.
My tips to over come these issues is to take a break. One of the reasons I blog so far in advance is because I like the fact if I need a break - nothing changes. I take a day off but my blog and twitter carry on like I never had a breakdown inside my mind. Ask your friends for advice - they will be kind to you and give you tips to improve. Hello Ego Boost. Comparing too much? Spend less and less time until you no longer look at their websites. If you don't look at them you can't compare yourself.
How do you get over the blogging overwhelm? Let me know in the comments.
