Oh Mystery! I am definitely in the process of planning out a crime/murder mystery novel. The idea came to me after playing a game on my phone. Plot bunnies will get you all the time! Plus with the help of James Pattinson, I should do okay. Lets see what Kristen has in store for me today!
Write a short mystery scene.
Mystery authors are quite fond of withholding valuable information in order to increase suspense. Practice teasing your readers by revealing information in part, and then heighten the stakes by making that missing information the key to a character's well-being or success.
I had never seen someone being taken away by the police before. It looked rough and when I looked back from the vehicle to my mother she was still stood there open armed waiting for me. She had this smile on her face that I didn't quite understand, it was warm, welcoming but also dark. A darkness crept over her face and I walked over to her.
"It'll be okay, he can't hurt us now," she cooed into my ear. I was confused, he had never hurt me. An image flashed into my mind of me screaming. I couldn't work out what was happening, I just knew I was in pain and I needed to get away. I squeezed my mother tighter as the blurry images passed through my mind. I was safe here. Or was I?
I'm not going to lie, I totally rushed that. I don't even know if that was good. Which is a shame because I'm thinking about turning a novel idea I had into a thriller. It's titled The Secret Admirer. How about you guys vote? Comment below with either Thriller or Romance and I'll take whoever has the most votes when I come to write it.
