Day Twelve and we are finally moving on from Point of View. I thought the reign of terror was never going to end! Only joking Kristen! Moving onto Genre now, according to the e-mails, and focusing on body language today - lets get started.
Write a short romantic scene.
Romance is all about emotion, but characters may bottle up their emotions before they admit their love. Today, practice displaying emotion between two attracted characters through the use of BODY LANGUAGE. Using body language instead of direct emotional descriptions will help you show your story rather than tell it.
My heart started to do flips as I watched him, the short distance between us feeling like miles. I felt my cheeks flush and my mouth clamp shut. Telling him was the only way to make him stay, yet I couldn't even call his name. Watching him interact with other people made my heart palpitations harder, he was moving closer to me with every step and I didn't know what I was going to say when it became my turn.
I needed to pull myself together, he was saying goodbye and moving towns. It was either now or never. I discreetly wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans and forced my feet to move forward making it my turn for a goodbye next. My brother gave me a sweet smile as he moved away from his best friend allowing me to say what I needed.
"Gem," his voice was like music to my ears. "Guess this is goodbye." The image of his bare chest floated into my mind. "Aren't you going to say anything?" he asked, crossing his arms slightly annoyed.
"I don't want you to go," I blurted out, my hands reaching for his. "Can we go outside and talk?" My cheeks burned as people turned to look at us. "Please," I half-begged, my fingers tightened around his arm and I felt him relax. He nodded and placed him arm around my back as he led me outside.
I didn't want to cut it there but as previously I don't want these blog posts to become too long. Then there is always the risk I might actually end up liking the story I create too much and ignoring my WIP. This was good practice as I have ideas for a couple on romance novels.
