Procrastination, thats most of our problems. We all complain about how we have so much to do and so little time to do it in. Yes keeping up with everything is hard but I would rather have a busy life than an empty one, so why are there so many distractions?
Today's post is all about distractions and my top five and what I am going to try and do to stop them from keeping me writing.
This is probably the worst culperate for me, especially on days where there are chats I want to participate in. Take tuesdays for example; I try and write 5 blog posts on a tuesday and participate in the #askablogger and #bookbloggers chats. Both of those cats run between 7-8pm UK time. How on earth am I meant to do it all?! I turn my phone onto do not disturb or I leave it with my boyfriend and I turn off tweetdeck and close twitter. You will not prevail!
Okay, I technically do not have a desk, I'm using my dining room table. I feel like I cannot get anything done until my workspace only has what I need in it. Yesterdays post? Needs to go. Boyfriends hat? That should be on the table by the front door. I absolutely have to make it semi clean for me to even begin to start working, so I make that the first part of the routine.
While we are on the subject - he can be the biggest distraction. When he is in one of his childish moods he can literally interrupt my work time every ten minutes with something silly. As much as I love it, I also hate it because I want to work. I want to be organised and I want things to be perfect, with the interruptions I will probably make many mistakes.
For anyone with multiple Apple products you'll know what I mean. When you're typing away and an iMessage comes through on the Macbook and you have to try very hard to keep it away from your fingers. All I ask for is three hours Tuesday and Thursday to not have any texts. I love you guys but you're just too tempting!
Plot Bunnies and Blog Post Ideas
My brain has the amazing ability to come up with ideas and story sections while I am working on other things. Usually in the middle of my work day, or while I'm catching up on my TV shows. This is the most annoying and distracting thing ever. I have to write it down or else I will completely forget it but those two minutes spent writing it down could have been used somewhere else. Plus, they never show up when I need them the most.
What things distract you from writing? Let me know in the comments.
