Sherlock Holmes is a very well known character and story. So, when I came across these books in my Amazon Recommends section, I just had to grab a couple. It was such a twist on the story I knew it would be worth picking up.
Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes never meant to get into the family business. But when you’re the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock, vampire hunting and mystery solving are in your blood. And when two society girls go missing, there’s no one more qualified to investigate.
Now fierce Evaline and logical Mina must resolve their rivalry, navigate the advances of not just one but three mysterious gentlemen, and solve murder with only one clue: a strange Egyptian scarab. The stakes are high. If Stoker and Holmes don’t unravel why the belles of London society are in such danger, they’ll become the next victims.
The cover of this book is definitely what drew me to click while scrolling through my recommended reads. I'm a BIG lover of all things ancient egypt and so the scarab really caught my eye. The blurb was fantastic. I loved every word and hit buy straight away.
Our story has two heroines. Alvemina, who goes by Mina, Holmes. She is the daughter of Mycroft making her Sherlock's niece. With her impressive skills in deduction, she lacks social graces and has little common sense, although very smart in other aspects. The second is Evaline Stocker. She's a Vampire hunter and has the strength to prove it. While Mina is the scholar, Evaline is more of a warrior. They both get enlisted by Irene Adler to investigate the death of some young society ladies, their only clue an Egyptian scarab.
The story was well-paced, and easy to follow. As this was a mystery every time someone popped up your thoughts changed on who was the culprit. Definitely going to be starting the second book to see how the series continues. This book did not have a lot of character development BUT I don't think that really mattered in this story.
The romance was a bit of a stretch and I really didn't like Pix.
