I don't know if any of you have been loving this series as much as me but I totally do not want it to end! If you're a writer, blogger, entrepreneur, infopreneur or author get in touch because I want to hear from you. Today I have the wonderful Fiona;
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I needed an outlet. I was going through a bit of a rough time and was trying so hard to keep this big, brave face on, so my first ever blog post was me basically admitting that I wasn't okay. It's been unbelievable the number of people who have come to me and said that they were going through exactly the same thing. It's funny, maybe we'd all be so much less lonely if we were more willing to admit that things aren't perfect for us!
2. Is blogging something you always wanted to do?
Definitely! I've always wanted to write and this is a way for me to practice that as often as I want to.
3. Do you have a full time job as well as blog?
I do indeed. I work as an Admissions Officer at UCL and blog whenever I can outside the nine to five. Glamorous, I know.
4. How do you come up with content ideas?
My blog is mainly about my life and my thoughts, so I generally just wait for something to inspire me. I'm pretty loud and opinionated, so I generally have something to talk about! I'm trying out a monthly feature, which I've called the Happiness Project and that's been really fun.
5. Do you think that bloggers need a niche?
I don't really have a niche, beyond trying to inspire people to live exactly the way that they want to. I think having a niche really works for some people but it's not for me. One of my favourite things about having a little corner of the internet that's all mine is the freedom to write about whatever I want. When I started out, I tried so hard to be a beauty blogger and a lot of those posts are so painfully forced and false.
6. How did you decide on your blog name?
Aha! I love when people ask this because it's such an obscure name. It's inspired by Matilda. In the musical, Matilda sings a song about an escapologist and an acrobat who fall in love and in the end, it turns out that Miss Honey is their daughter. So Miss Honey is the Escapologist's Daughter. I'm probably not smart or powerful enough to be a Matilda (yet!) but I like to think I'm strong and kind enough to be a Miss Honey.
7. What are your favourite things about book blogging?
I love having people read my writing. The idea that someone reads a thought that came out of my head and identifies with it is just the most wonderful thing. There's a gorgeous quote from the History Boys that goes: "The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours". That, to me, is what it's all about. Having that connection.
8. How do you keep yourself organised?
I don't! I am the queen of taking something fun and making it into a chore. And I really love my blog and I don't want that to happen, so I try to keep the pressure off of myself. Sometimes I'll post a few times a week, other times it drops down to a few times a month. Carving out time to write is probably the most important part of staying organised for me. If you want to write, you have to commit to sitting down and doing it.
9. Advice for aspiring bloggers?
I feel like I should have a big wise blogger beard to stroke before I give advice. I think the most important things are to be authentic and to be brave. The world doesn't need another Zoella. It already has a Zoella. And it already has thousands of girls trying to be the next Zoella. Be the first you instead. Blog what you love - it shows!
10. Any future plans?
Right now, I'm on the dreaded job hunt, so if anyone is looking for a social media type person, do give me a shout! Also, I'm working on a young adult novel. Keep your fingers crossed for me - I'll need it!
