One item I find essential to my work in progress, and writing life is a notebook. These things can be completely invaluable because of their quick as easy usage. If you're a writer and don't have a notebook, leave a comment and let me know why!
I use mine for three things: Idea Jotting, Scene Note Taking and Writing WIP.
We all know that ideas, although easy to remember, sometimes things in life distract us and you forget things. You end up sitting down forcing the idea back to you and coming up with nothing. No matter where I am I will either write it down by hand or open up evernote on my phone and jot down the idea or thought I had so that when I come back to it it's a little easier than getting the idea back from thin air.
My ideas tend to strike me while I am at work.
Scene Note Taking
Whether you're on holiday or a day trip there will be something about your scenery you like. I jot these down because when writing a book you can make up stuff. Using these things that you like, from trees to building, you can create a perfect town and make it feel like a real place.
Because I work 45+ hours a week, my set times to write are never the easiest things to stick too. Although sacred sometimes things crop up and get in the way no matter how hard you try to make that writing time stick. On my breaks during work I use my evernote to keep that last paragraph that I have written and allow me to continue writing while on the go.
Do you have a notebook? What do you use it for? Let me know in the comments!
